Surgical Technology


The Surgical Technology program prepares students for employment as entry-level surgical technologists functioning under the supervision of professional registered nurses or licensed physicians. The program - accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education - includes courses in general and technical education. Selected clinical experiences are provided in local hospitals under the supervision of a member of the surgical technology clinical faculty.

To complete the Delaware County Community College Surgical Technology Program Surgical Technology students are required to complete 120 surgical cases. Thirty cases are required to be in General Surgery. Ninety procedures may be in various surgical specialties.

Program Outcomes

The National Certification Exam outcomes assessment exam (OAE) participation for the class of 2017 was reported as 100 percent. The OAE pass rate for the National Certification Exam for surgical technology (CST) was 62 percent for the class of 2017. The class of 2017 graduate employment rate was 85 percent.
