2021 Alumni Award Winners

Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award

Photo of Enrique Latoison

George Shadrack Kamanda '14 is the recipient of the 2021 Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award. He held several prominent student leadership roles at the College, including creating the Mutual Africa Club, and received high honors before graduating with an associate degree in General Studies.

His academic journey continued at Saint Joseph's University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Political Science and later the University of Pennsylvania to receive a Global Human Rights certificate. George is currently on leave from Case Western Reserve University School of Law to pursue a Master of Studies in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Oxford, Saint Anthony's College.

Outside of the classroom, George is deeply committed to serving his community. His experiences include a presentation on youth's role in Africa's sustainable development for the United Nations, a fellowship at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics, and internships with the European Parliament, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, and the Cleveland Catholic Charities.

No matter how busy he may be, there is always time to support his birthplace, Sierra Leone, and its citizens. He conducts weekly virtual sessions through his organization, The Necessity Firm, to mentor students and encourage citizenship efforts. George was nominated for the Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award by several faculty and staff members.

Alumni Professional Achievement Award

Sharon White image

Sharon White '15 is the recipient of the 2021 Alumni Professional Achievement Award. This award annually recognizes a graduate who is accomplished in their profession while demonstrating a significant level of distinction within their chosen field. Sharon's journey to becoming the current honoree is a story of personal determination and selfless acts for her family and the community.

Sharon originally left school at an early age to find work. Her career eventually led to considerable success managing nearly 70 commercial real estate properties with her former husband, who is still her best friend and business partner today. After downsizing their holdings, Sharon decided it was time to renew her educational goals. In 2012, she enrolled in the College's New Choices Career Development Program.

For more information about Sharon and her inspiring story, please visit www.dccc.edu/alumni-news.

The Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award

It was created by the late Barbara Wong Moss, a former College trustee, and her son John in honor of her father, an immigrant from China who believed in the value of education. To qualify, the nominee must have successfully completed at least 30 academic credits at the College.

Anyone, including faculty and staff, may submit nominations. Alumni may also nominate themselves. Nomination form for the Wong Moss Outstanding Alumni Award.
