Network for New Music Performs "Poetry Through Music" March 5

(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • February 28, 2017)—Delaware County Community College presents the Network for New Music ensemble on Sunday, March 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. on the Marple Campus (901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063). Network for New Music is a flexible, 20-member group of musicians who also play with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet, and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Eleven of the ensemble members will perform “Poetry Through Music,” an innovative exploration of connections between literature and music. The event will be held in the Large Auditorium in the Academic Building.

At the core of the program is a new poem by Dr. Susan Stewart, written specially for Network for New Music and inspired by Friedrich Hölderlin’s novel Hyperion.  A former Guggenheim, Pew, and MacArthur Fellow, Stewart is a poet, critic and the Avalon Foundation Professor of English at Princeton University. New chamber works by Gerald Levinson, Andrew Rudin, Eliza Brown, Benjamin Krause, Robert Capanna and Ke-Chia Chen bring Stewart’s poem to life.

Founded in 1984, Network for New Music has been recognized for its excellent performances, unique programming, and cross-genre collaborations with other art forms. The ensemble’s passionate, meticulously crafted performances by emerging and established composers from around the world led The Philadelphia Inquirer to name it the city’s “premier new music organization.” Also committed to education, the ensemble has worked with students from the Curtis Institute of Music, the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Swarthmore College, the University of Delaware, and West Chester University and, since 2007, it has held a residency at Haverford College.

The event is part of the College’s New Music Concert Series. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. ADA assistive listening devices, accessible seating, and free parking are available.
